I was wondering what to do about my hair. when its wet it has pretty waves but when it dries it puffs up and looks frizzy and some pieces are almost straight. is there anything i can do to make it stay wavy? Also i want to do something new with my hair. i have a small, oval-like face and was wondering if i should get short or long bangs? Liz P

Liz,

Stop for a second and congratulate yourself :) You've landed the most versatile face shape. You can wear almost any hairstyle.

No matter the length of your cut, you'll look best with layers near your cheekbones, lips or chin; basically whatever feature you want to highlight.

For Example: Jennifer's Aniston's haircut looks amazing on an oval face. The long layers hit at the cheekbones and the chin. The hair is longer in the back, and shorter in the front so it doesn't weigh down her face. If you are petite, you want to avoid super long hair in the front because you risk looking like you're 10 years old.

Your curly hair needs to be moisturized and babied at all times! Embrace this fact Liz!! You can truly wear your hair ANYWAY you like with your face shape and texture. Now, what to do with that texture is the question. In order to smooth down your cuticle I would recommend the Keratin Complex Shampoo and Conditioner (call 636-391-1717 to find our location near you with the product) and the Catwalk Curlesque Curl's Rock Amplifier has a little sea salts in the products to keep you in style with the Beach Wave look. The combination of a smoother ans styling aid will give you the results that you desire!! Happy Hair Days ;) Thank you!

I was wanting to get a hair extention. Can you please tell me the details involved in this process? How much should it cost? Caroline N

Caroline, Hello! We do not currently offer extensions ;( However, I can help in the decision making process. The various extension classes that I have been involved with include:

Clip-In- Versatile and easily removable for that "I think I want long hair today" look without the permanence of glues or weaving. My suggestion would be the Jessica Simpson real hair extensions. They clip in very easy and look great! Just remember to get the real hair otherwise you will not be able to curl or flat iron the synthetic type.

Glue- in: There are 2 different ways to do this. One is to take strips of hair that are glued into the scalp. We call these tracks because they are about 2 inches or less go beneath the hair length to make it appear longer. From personal experience these don't last very long and are itchy for a bit until you get used to the glue. Again, make sure that you are getting real hair!

Glue In (second option): These are small sections of the hair taken at a time and then placed throughout the hair shaft to create volume and layers for a longer lasting look. These last the longest time; in my opinion and seem to be the most hassle free. However the price will be a bit more depending on the style and keep the health of your hair.

Please look at this site to reference: http://www.sheknows.com/articles/802841/the-pros-and-cons-of-hair-extensions

Good luck with your extension process and I hope this has helped with your decision making. Have a great day!

Hi, I wanted to know if you would be able to give my daughter who is 8 a perm? I really want to get her one and she loves curly hair and i am tired of spending alot of time curling her hair for one day. her hair is shoulder length. how much would it cost to get her hair permed? thank you so much for your time! lisa L

Lisa, Hello! Everyone wants what they do not have and curly hair is definitely one of them! I would suggest going into our salon for a consultation on your daughters hair. Since she is 8 years old any chemical service will become maintenance with the proper products and styling tools for upkeep and the health of the hair! I cannot quote a price without being able to perform a full consultation. Please make an appointment and we would be happy to give you our advice and a beautiful service!! Thank you for your inquiry.

i have a round face and long hair,my current hair style makes me so weird, so i want to change a style. what do you recommend if i want my face look smaller and good for a 20-year-old girl. RU L

Ru, you have that young oh so natural beauty at your age!! I can suggest a style that will be go with your round features. Long hair naturally helps lengthen a round face shape, particularly if you use a center part that draws the eye along the length of the face. The key is to avoid adding extra volume around the cheeks (the fullest part of the face).

Keep longer locks sleek and narrow until they pass the chin for a smoother style, and feel free to add wispy tapered ends to help soften the face and add distinction. An offset side fringe (bang), similar to an emo style, is another way to incorporate longer hair to help slenderize a round face. Highlights framing the face can also break up the style and create a narrower appearance. I hope this has helped you Ru and have an amazing weekend!

i have really dark brown, thick, and i guess you could say long hair. it is always very thick and frizzy and when i straighten my hair it doesnt stay straightened. i want to fix that and i also want to be able to wear my hair down naturally with out it being so curly. even when i USED to thin it out it never worked. i would go home and it would look even thicker.also i have a tan skin color and im arab. im kind of tired of my hair color. i dont know what to do anymore. HELP?!?! ameera g

Ameera, I sympathize with your dilemma as I have the same hair and with the humid summer coming, ponytails have been a best friend until now! The worst thing you can do for your hair type is to thin it out. The thinning process cuts pieces of your hair to the scalp. The hair is not eliminated and when it grows back your hair will feel very thick at the scalp and slightly stringy on the ends. DO NOT thin any more! We have recently introduced a Smoothing System that eliminated 95% of your frizz by sealing the hair shaft with Keratin which dispels water....Translation = no more frizz because of humidity, shorter blow dry time (without looking like a poof ball) and you will even be able to let your hair down during the summer months! The Smoothing system will last 6-8 months. It does not permanently change the composition of your hair thus eliminating the more permanent dryness with other systems. I have had this done and it is AMAZING!! You are the perfect candidate for this system! Most of our locations offer the Treatment however please give us a call at 636-391-1717 so we can direct you to a location near you. As far as color we would need to complete a full consultation with you in order to suggest the correct color for your hair. I hope this has helped and have a great day!

I have blonde hair. Lighter than dark blonde but "darker" than regular blonde. How would I describe this color to my stylist? http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg73/DUMMPY/rip.jpg Miranda L

Miranda, Your hair is gorgeous, too cute! Are you coloring it yourself or is this natural? It is difficult for me to communicate what you should tell your stylist without performing a true consultation on your hair and finding out the results you would like to achieve. Every Artist/Stylist has a different perception on color and what should be done to achieve optimum results. I would suggest that you make an appointment with one of our talented Stylists and they would be happy to go through a consultation with you. The color formulation is a professional language and I cannot explain the color and how they work unless you have a good background in color and chemicals. You can call 636-391-1717 to find out the location closest to you or visit our website at www.customcuts.com. We are also on Facebook! Check us out and I hope this has helped. Have a great week.

My hair is long, straight and fine, but I have a lot of it. I want a haircut that is easy to manage (nothing past blowdrying) but makes it look like I have thicker hair. I was thinking a collar-bone length bob. What do you suggest? Chelsey G

Chelsey, If you want to keep your styling time to a minimum (simple blow dry) you should go for a style that is about 1 inch below your shoulders and start the layers at 4 inches from the scalp. This will create some volume for you and also keep your fin hair from becoming too limp and long. My suggestion would be to keep it longer because of the time you want to style your hair. A shorter style would require some more time for styling and management in the morning. Thank you for your inquiry!

I looking for a new look that is easy to take care of. I work outside all day so I want tokeep it short but looking professional. charles r

Charles, Hello! First off I have to preach to you the importance of keeping your scalp healthy! Since you are working outside and in the sun all day it is imperative that you are using a UV protectant product on your scalp. Think about your scalp as an extension of your skin. If you neglect it then you might be in for the harsh ramifications of the sun. I would recommend using the Bosley system for some added protection. They have a variety of kits that most of our salons offer and will be customized to your needs. Ok, off my soap box :) I would suggest a number 4 on sides and blend to the top with scissors. The length with a number 4 is 1/2 inch. It will be short however not see through allowing more scalp protection while outside. Have the top cut to 1 inch or more depending upon the style you would like to achieve. I personally like to blend to about 1 1/2 inches for a bit of length and easier styling results. I hope this has helped and have a wonderful week!

How does stripping the old hair color affect ones hair? I have faded brown color in parts of my hair and a lot of gray under the top layer of hair. I was using root touch up color for a long time. I now want to let my hair be the natural salt and pepper gray that it is. Eileen L

Eileen, Hello! One of the biggest misconceptions of hair color is that somehow your natural color is still lingering behind the color you have placed on top. The reality is that you have chemically altered your hair color by changing the actual chemistry, so, your natural color is no longer hiding under the color you have used. The color that is on your hair at the moment is permanent. By "stripping" the color you are bleaching the darker color to a lighter color in order to place the desired color on your hair. My suggestion for a smooth transition into your natural color would be a service that we offer called Color Camo. This service will allow you to go natural without altering the color as it grows. This service fades out naturally and will benefit the health of your hair as well! All of our locations offer the service and will be happy to make you an appointment. I have confidence that you will have the best care and feel fabulous during your change back to natural color. Thank you for writing in and if you have any more questions please email me back. Have a fantastic week!

My hair is curly and extremley frizzy. I have a thin square face. Any suggestions on how to cut it. I am looking for a change! erica b

Erica, Hi! Here are a few suggestions about your cut to compliment your square face shape. I would recommend short-to-medium length hair, especially with wave or roundness around the face. Wispy bangs will soften the angular shape. Off-center parts with height at the crown look great on square faces. You want to soften the square look of your face with layers and wispy looks around the face. Height at the crown will elongate your symmetrical shape. Since your hair is curly take advantage as it adds a nice balance to the straight features of your face shape.

As, I have very curly hair also, here are the products that I am currently using to achieve some control: Keratin Complex Color Care Shampoo and Conditioner, Sexy Hair Concepts Soy Tri-Wheat Leave-in Treatment (while hair is wet after shampooing), Sexy Hair Concepts Curling mousse (scrunch you hair upside down and blow dry while upside down with a diffuser) and last but not least finish off with Bed Head Masterpiece Hairspray to add shine and a bit of hold. Have fun and thank you for writing in, we LOVE to hear from you and tell us about your experience! Please check out our Facebook fan page as well. You can get discounts and see other testimonials too. Have a great hair day!

I have long curly hair that I wear up all of the time. I haave just recently had a baby and I am looking for a change. I was thinking something short that doesn't require a lot of time, however I have kind of a chubby face. What do you recommend? Danielle K

Danielle, Congratulations on the new baby! If you have a classic round face, you have soft, non-angular features. You may find you have more of a round face when you carry extra weight, but keep in mind many classic round-faced women are super-skinny and still have non-angular features. Short hairstyles can look really great on round faced women. The key factor is to understand that the overall face is shaped more like a circle with the chin and jaw line gradually evening out with the forehead region. Key techniques to make faces look slimmer with shorter hairstyles include more volume, playful bangs, and good facial framing. Facial framing can really help create great looks for round faces. I hope tis has helped and have a fantastic week!

i have a heart shaped face and long blonde hair. i am thinking about getting 4 slightly choppy layers. would this be the best style? emma s

Emma,

Hello! Happy March and you know what that means... we are almost into the lovely warmer weather of Spring! I suppose that also means humidity, so make sure you invest in some smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner for the frizzies. Try Biolage Smoothing or Bed Head Some Like it Hot! Either of these will aid in your new look designed for the heart shaped face! Here are some suggestions for the correct hairstyle.

I would recommend chin-length or longer styles work well with a heart shaped face. Other styles to try: side-parted hair styles or swept-forward layers around the upper face, with gently wispy bangs. A chin length bob is great on your face shape! This creates a balanced look by giving fullness where you need it. You can wear shorter styles; however, if you are a dramatic heart shape you need to leave weight in the back nape area. This will achieve more balance between your dramatic cheekbones and more narrow chin.

It would benefit your style to AVOID short, full styles that emphasize the upper face. Stay away from styles with too much height at the crown. Severe, slicked back looks are too harsh for this shape too. If you are a dramatic heart shape, the short, full styles with tapered necklines, which emphasize the upper face will make you look top heavy. Too much height at the crown will give the appearance of a longer and narrower chin. Just remember if you have a dramatic heart shape face, you have great cheekbones to emphasize! Don't miss the boat by getting a cut which is too top heavy.

Check out these celebs that have the heart shaped face as well: Michelle Pfeiffer Ashley Judd Jennifer Love Hewitt Claudia Schiffer Emmanuaell Beart Juliette Binoche Lisa Kudrow Lucy Lawless Naomi Campbell

I hope this has helped and have fun creating the best fit for your home routine and styling. Have a fantastic week!

How cna I make my hair grow faster, but still keep it healthy? Haley S

Haley, Hello! I am going to share a few steps that you can take to grow your hair faster while keeping it healthy and still be able to stand the time it takes to grow.

#1 Be very nice to your hair. Your hair falls out naturally on its own, but you may be pulling it out faster with the things you do. The gentler you are with your hair, the less it will fall out and the faster it will grow.

* Don't pull your hair into tight ponytails or cornrows. Use butterfly clips and loose braids instead. * Brush it carefully. If you have wavy or curly hair, you should use a wide tooth comb if your hair is still wet, since brushes can disrupt curl pattern and cause frizz, while breaking hair at the same time. * Detangle your hair slowly and carefully. If you do it too fast, you will end up yanking out your hair, especially if its wet, or really tangled. Start by combing out the last few inches, and gradually work up. This won't change how your hair grows, but careful combing can prevent your hair from breaking. * Brush your hair before you shower in the morning. Throughout the night your hair can knot up pretty bad. Brushing your hair before you shower reduces tangling in the shower. Also, when using conditioner, try sifting your fingers through your hair. This reduces combing after your shower and also distributes the conditioner evenly. Make sure that you start at your ends while conditioning and then work through. Try a leave in Conditioning Treatment such as Sexy hair Concepts Soy Tri Wheat Leave-in.

#2 Minimize how much you style your hair. Any kind of styling that involves pulling your hair at the root (blow drying straight, straight iron, curling iron, rollers) will contribute to slow growth. Heat styling can also encourage hair to break. If you really need to dry your hair fast, use a blow dryer for 5 minutes only and make sure to use a heat protectant such as Paul Mitchell Heat Seal to protect from the heat. * Avoid or minimize chemical treatments like color, highlights, straighteners, and permanent waves. These weaken your hair and increase the likelihood of breakage and loss. If this is not an option go for an all over demi-permanent color that will maintain health.

#3 Take a daily multivitamin. Keep in mind that everything that you consume goes through your body and can be detected in your hair. It can take several months to notice the results, so don't get discouraged.

* It is suggested that iron deficiency makes hair loss worse/growth. Taking a multivitamin and eating iron-rich foods (tofu, lentils, beans, oysters, spinach, prunes, raisins, lean beef).

Hair grows for 6 weeks, and rests for 3-5 months before falling out so a new hair can grow in its place. Normally, 15% of your hair is at the resting phase, but a sudden change in nutrition can cause some hair follicles in the growing phase to switch into the resting phase prematurely, possibly raising the percentage to more than 30%. Diet is very important to maintain and grow your hair faster.

#4 Relax! Stress is a common cause of reversible hair growth/ loss. When you experience physical or emotional turmoil, it can take anywhere from 3 weeks to 4 months for the results to show up in your hair.

#5 Address any pressing health issues. Hair is a strong indicator of health. Many nutritional deficiencies can cause hair growth to slow, and can cause hair to thin. If your hair has gotten seriously thinner or stops growing for more than a few months, you should discuss it with your doctor.

#6 Try not to wash your hair every day. The natural oils protect and condition your hair better than anything. Use a product by Bed Head called Rockaholic Dry Shampoo, it will eliminate the oily feeling.

#7 Use Deep Conditioning Treatments like Moroccan Oil Hair Mask treatment and rinsed out with icy water to seal down your cuticle and add shine. The longer you let it sit, the more oils will seep into your hair. By using professional treatments on your hair and leaving it on over night is a good way to mend split ends.

*Another step is to trim the ends of your hair every month. Not too much but, just enough to snip off some split ends.

Thank you for your inquiry and I would love to hear back from you! Have a fantabulous weekend :)

Sarah, I just had a baby and my hair is coming out in GOBS from the change in hormones! What can I use to stop it from all falling out??? ;) Katie N

Miss Katie, Hello, I must say that after looking viewing your pictures, you have an amazing head of beautiful locks and baby Mark is lovely! Don't be too hard on the hormones. It is very natural to have hair loss after pregnancy! Approximately 90% of your hair is growing at any one time, while the other 10% enter a resting phase. Every two to three months the resting hair falls out and allows new hair to grow in its place. Telogen effluvium is the excessive shedding of hair that occurs one to five months following pregnancy. This is not uncommon, affecting somewhere between 40 to 50% of women; but like most changes during pregnancy, it is temporary. Have faith you are very normal my dear :) Hair loss that is connected to pregnancy usually occurs after delivery. During pregnancy, an increased number of hairs go into the resting phase, which is part of the normal hair loss cycle. This condition is not serious enough to cause bald spots or permanent hair loss, and should begin to diminish within 3-4 months after delivery. If you feel that you are experiencing unusual hair loss while you are pregnant, this may be due to a vitamin or mineral deficiency.

Here are a few suggestions that may help with the frustration of shedding your hair:

* Consult with your health care provider to ensure a proper balance of hormones * Avoid pigtails, cornrows, hair weaves, braids and tight hair rollers which can pull and stress your hair * Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables, which contain flavonoids and antioxidants that may provide protection for the hair follicles and encourage hair growth * Use shampoos and conditioners that contain biotin and silica (Bosley or Nioxin products will help) * Hair is fragile when it is wet, so be gentle; avoid fine tooth combs * If you need to use blow dryers and other heated hair instruments, try to use the cool setting * Supplement your diet with the following nutrients: o Vitamin B complex (Catergory A) o Biotin (Possibly safe; orally and appropriately) o Vitamin C (Catergory A) o Vitamin E ( Likely safe if amount does not exceed the RDA; possibly safe if it does) o Zinc (Likely safe when used orally and appropriately; likely unsafe when used orally in high doses)

I hope the advice has helped and have fun in cheese country! Thank you for your inquiry.

Can you guys strip colored hair to the natural color it was before it was dyed? libby O

Libby, The biggest misconception when you color your hair is that your natural color will be somewhere hidden beneath your new color. Unfortunately, you have changed the color and chemical composition of your hair strand. We can remove the color that you have placed on your hair and put another color that matches your natural however it will never be the exact color until it grows at the root. This is considered a color correction and could take some time to achieve the results you are looking for, please call 636-391-1717 and we can direct you to the closest location to you and they will be able to to set up an appointment for a consultation. Happy hair days! Thank you for writing in!

Hi! i Have very thick frizzy hair. If i want to wear it down i have to straighten it but i hate straightening it. I was wondering if getting cera repair would help the frizzy ness. Also would like to know what a good hair style would help thin out my hair so i dint have to straighten it to wear it down. Rebecca r

Rebecca, Hello! Our hair is one of the lovely wonders of the world! We can even predict weather based on our hair days, you gotta love it! I have a few recommendations for you based upon your feedback and personal trial and error. I understand that straightening is difficult and time consuming with our hair type. It is very important that you are using the correct products to ensure results. I would suggest Biolage Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioning Balm for daily use, while your hair is still wet use a small dime size amount of Moroccan Oil in your hair to smooth down your cuticle and reduce the blow dry time, after words use Paul Mitchell Heat Seal to protect your hair from the direct heat you are using with your curling iron or flat iron. I know this is a process however it will help cut down your curly hair frustrations.

The Cera Repair treatment is formulated for very damaged hair. It is a repairing treatment used to rebuild protein in hair that has been over processed due to coloring and or heat use. I am not sure per your email if this treatment would be the best option. It sounds as though you need to put moisture into your hair thus I would recommend a Deep Conditioning Treatment (Keratin Complex Vanilla Bean Treatment) as an in salon service. Speaking of the Keratin Line, we offer an AMAZING service called Keratin Complex Smoothing Treatment. The treatment reduces the frizz in your hair 95% and smooths down all of your tresses allowing you to actually go out in humid weather without poofing up like a frizz ball! I have had this treatment and swear by it! You would be amazed at the results. A select number of our salons offer this service, call 636-391-1717 and we can direct you to a salon close to you for an appointment. The treatment lasts for 6-8 months and fades out of your hair naturally without damage, it truly is the best thing for us "curly girls" that need some management!

As far as your hair style, thinning is one of the worst things you could do because when you thin out your hair you are putting a quick fix to your problem. Thinning goes in and cuts out small sections of the hair making it thinner. Over time your hair grows back and causes a bulk at the scalp resulting in more frustration. My recommendation would be adding some layers to relieve the weight.

I hope this has helped and thank you for your inquiry! Have an amazing week!

My manager was diagnosed with breast cancer and I wanted to support it. I was wondering if you guys would dye like a strip of hair pink or what you would do? If so How much would it cost? Alex L

Alex, What a great cause to build awareness! I am sorry to hear about your manager and wish the best of luck! You have 2 options, we can color a piece of your hair pink, just a strip in the back that will be permanent and does fade out over time or we have our location on SLU campus that has real hair pink extensions. I have I guess fine fly away hair with the top of my scalp balding. I typically keep it as short as they can cut with scissor and comb. Looking for a new look that is easy to maintain. Can you help? Ron K

Ron, I would absolutely recommend that you consider using our NEW Bosley hair care products. It is a shampoo, conditioner and foam that is proven to regrow and strengthen the hair!!! It sounds as though you would need the Blue care kit and most of our locations are carrying the product. Please call 636-391-1717 to inquire about a location that is close to you carrying the product. For your cut try a shorter look blended to the top. For example, go with a number 4 blended with shears on top to maintain an easier style. Keep in mind that this will be short cut above the ears and may take some getting used to. Both of these suggestions combined will give you a new look that is easy to maintain. Have a fantastic week!

i have colored, shoulder length, medium brown hair. I want to dye my hair to a medium blonde color. is that possible to do without it turning orange? and if so how much would it cost for an estimate? Katie S

Katie, This is absolutely possible! I am guessing that you have tried this on your own before and it turned orange in the past?? Leave it to the professionals we are very knowledgeable in this exact situation! I would suggest adding highlight s to your hair and we will make those highlight the medium blonde color you are wanting to achieve. By adding the highlights you will have dimension and a great transition into the spring/summer looks (you always want to go lighter gradually as the weather turns warmer, it will also compliment your skin tone as the sun starts to come around again). I hate to quote prices over email only because to get an accurate estimation it is imperative to have a consultation with a stylist in one of our salons. However, I can say that highlights for medium length hair starts at around $65 and most likely will include an extra color bowl to tone your hair to the desired medium blonde. If you would like a haircut which is recommended with any color process it is a bit extra and will give you a brand new fresh look!! Remember to use a color care shampoo and conditioner such as Biolage Color Care to make sure your color lasts, this is your warranty! I hope this has helped and if I can be of further assistance please feel free to email me back. Thank you for your inquiry!

I want to get my haircut, but im nervous because i have very thick curly hair. i have had long hair most of my life, so i was thinking about cutting it to about my collar bone. I was wondering if you would sugest layers or thinning? erica b

Erica, I would absolutely suggest layers to help the weight of your hair when styling. Thinning your hair might cause problems in the long run because the hair always grows back at the scalp. When you thin the hair regrowth can cause a problem, it will be very thick and coarse at your scalp when regrowth occurs! Keep in mind that when you go from long to short with your hair type styling is a must! I would suggest a shampoo and conditioner that will weigh down your hair and add moisture. The Keratin shampoo and conditioner found in most of our salons will cut down on the frizzy look and also moisturize your hair for optimal styling. Moroccan oil will cut down on your blow dry time and help with your styling also, you put a small nickle size amount in your palm and rub through your ends while your hair is wet after this then you are ready to style! I hope this has helped and have fun with your new look!!! Thank you for your inquiry.

i am a little over weight, with a round face. i hae alots of gray, olive skin. and 43 years old. what kind of color and style would look best Rhonda L

Rhonda, To elongate your face start with a style that angles at your jawbone. When styling you want to create height on the top of your head to draw attention up rather than down. I have Olive skin too and our skin tone tends to be able to pull off any color. Generally, I would suggest a warm brown to cover the grey and highlights to give your color dimension. It is hard to tell you without being able to perform a full consultation with you. Any of our stylists would love to spend some time with you and suggest a style and color that will best suit you and answer your concerns. What color should I dye my hair? I have a light tan skin tone, some freckels, and my hair color right now is blonde from using Sun In. Thanks! Haley S

Haley, It sounds as though you could possibly go with some strawberry blond and warm gold low lights to bring out your natural complexion. The warmer colors will look great during the winter and are also the "it" colors for winter. It is very hard to give you a full consultation without seeing your hair color and discussing with you in person about your hair type. Whenever i dry my hair air dryed it always gets all curly. I like curly but this is ugly curly. how can i get my hair to dry straight? Sarah f

Sarah, The natural composition of your hair is curly, your hair will never air dry completely straight. I am very sorry to disappoint however; I have a suggestion that could solve all of your "ugly curl" days! Custom Cuts has just introduced a NEW smoothing system called Keratin Complex. It infuses a natural protein called Keratin into your hair eliminating 95% of the frizz! You will not even recognize you hair after this treatment!!! The treatment lasts for 4-6 months. This is NOT a relaxer! The Keratin Complex will fade out of your hair over the 4-6 month time period and does not affect regrowth! I have had the treatment in my hair for the past 3 months and will back this product!!! It is an amazing line and treatment that would benefit your hair troubles! Currently our new location at Des Peres is carrying the line and treatment, please call 314-966-5553 to make an appointment and inquire about the Keratin Complex Smoothing System. Thank you and have a fantastic week!

I have horrible fly aways and I don't know what to do about them, are there any good products I can use to tame them or is there any way to get rid of them? Lindsey W

Lindsey, Hi! Fly aways can be caused by a few factors....If you flat iron your hair; the fly aways could be caused by breakage due to high direct heat being used on your hair. You must be using something to protect you hair from that heat. Think of it as sticking your hand in a hot oven without a glove on, your hand would burn and so does your hair. I would recommend using Vavoom Iron In Control Guard. They have one for fine or thick hair. Choose the appropriate one for your hair type. This product also hair a shine factor and will help the flyways while you hair heals. Another reason could be static and I love to recommend using Bed Head Headrush and Bed Head After Party. These products smell great and will tame the frizzy fly a ways. Take a small amount of the After party and apply it to your hair before drying. after drying use the spray Headrush to add shine and a little weight to control your fly a ways. Be careful and make sure not to use too much product as it is very concentrated and should last you at least 3/4 months. I hope this helps and have a great week!

I have thick, curly hair. I want to get it cut to just above my shoulders. Should I get it layered? Joan T

Joan, Hello! I also have very thick and curly hair! In the most recent of year I am learning to embrace the curls however, it has taken many years of being a stylist to learn how to maintain them. Layers in curly hair depend on the amount of styling time you are willing to put into your daily routine. The layers in curly hair will cause the "bounce" to come back into your natural curl thus elevating weight. Once getting layers you will need to you a curling balm such as the Moroccan Oil Curling Cream treatment. Actually, I would recommend the entire Moroccan Oil line to help maintain your curls. The shampoo is Sulfate and Surfactant free which will help maintain color and also leave your curls with the moisture that they so desperately need to maintain. If you decide to stay without layers, product still needs to be added although the weight will hold down the curl a bit more than with layers. I feel as though layers in curly maintain a style that is often hard for us to get because the curls cover up some of our style often times. Joan, whatever you do...refrain from getting your hair thinned out! This can be disaster to curly hair when the thinned hair starts to grow back thicker at the scalp. Most of our location carry the Moroccan Oil Treatment line and will be happy to help you with any further questions that you might have! Thank you and have a great day!

Hello. I am looking for a new flat iron. I want something long lasting and a 1". Do you have any suggestions of flait irons that i can buy at your salons? gail s

Gail, Good Morning! We have 3 different types of flatirons in our salons. I currently really like the CROC flatiron. You are able to control the heat settings and it reaches up 450 degrees! If your hair is thick or curly this flatiron is perfect and it comes in 1 inch. If you have wavy not so thick hair I would recommend a CHI flatiron. It will smooth everything out without having the higher heat setting, that you may not need. A flatiron is an investment purchase. It will last you a very long time and always comes with a warranty. We are able to special order you the flat iron that you request at any of our locations. Make sure to be using a heat seal such as Vavoom Iron In Protection or Paul Mitchell Heat Seal!!!! I can't tell you how important this is to ensure that you don not fry your ends due to heat! Have a amazing week and if you have any more questions or need a location near you please give us a call at: 636-391-1717. Thank you!

What is your take on organic shampoo's and conditioners? Lathan J

Lathan, Hello! The organic issue tends to be a very fine line between trully organic and "organic" labellings. Organic shampoos should be sulfate and surfactant free, thus being better for your haircolor and more gentle on the hair shaft in general. The chemicals used in regular shampoos can cause some reaction if the person has a skin condition or allergy. The "Organic" lines are safer for the environment because the harmful chemicals have been eliminated. Also, those chemicals can seep into the skin cavities and in some cases (not a fact) have been thought to cause long term problems. Things you have to consider when using organic products; the lather is virtually eliminated due to surfactant deletion (suds really are not needed, it's a psychological thing. The suds strip the hair, sometimes leaving it dry and unmanageable), products are very concentrated (use sparingly) and choice is an option. I have found that the Sexy Hair Organics line is fantastic for Shampoo, Conditioners and styling aids. Take a small amount of Shampoo, work it in your hands and start at the ends of your hair, shampooing throughout (remember you are not going to have alot of sud action), when conditioning do the same with the exception of placing the conditioner on your ends throughout your hair (conditioner is not needed throughout) rinse with cool water to add shine and smoothness. I hope this has helped and have a fantastic day!

I used sun-in over the summer and i am thinking of going either a burgandy red or an auburn. Will dying/highlighting my hair do more damage to it now that i have used sin-in? Gail s

Gail, Oh the joys of Sun-In. The chemicals in Sun-In lighten your hair naturally with a medium accelerant that lightens with minimal damage. We would consider coloring or highlighting your hair a color correction because the Sun-In is not a professional product and we cannot ensure how the color is going to take or react with the chemicals that is in your hair from the Sun-In. You should pick up some Redken Extreme Anti-Snap to mend your ends and put protein into your hair. Use daily Biolage Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner to add moisture. Do this for 1 week and then make an appointment for us to give you a full consultation and the desired hair color. Unfortunately, anytime you color your hair the chemicals will damage it, using the correct treatments to rebuild and make it healthy again is the key! Good luck and I hope this helps! Thank you for your inquiry.

I died my hair brightred and now it won't bleach out tomy normal color. what do I do? haley h

Haley, Don't worry help is on the way! First I have to explain that when you chemically alter your hair the natural color is changed forever. The natural color has been changed permanently until you grow it out. However all is not lost!!! Custom Cuts can match your original hair color to blend in as your hair grows out. Please call 636-391-1717 to get a listing of the closest locations to you and we can also direct you to make an appointment. Good Luck and thank you for your inquiry!!

I have a round face and I love my long hair but after so many dyes it's now burt. So I was thinking about a shorter style. What would be the best haircut for me with my type of face shape? danielle m

Danielle, I would recommend a swing stack, it is shorter in the back and comes to a point longer in the front. This will elongate your face and allow you to trim up the damaged colored hair. If you would like to keep as much length as possible, I would recommend using the Redken Extreme Shampoo to add repairing protein and All Soft Conditioner to add moisture. Follow up after showering with Redken Anti Snap on your ends. Make sure you are using a heat protect and such as Paul Mitchell Heat Seal to protect your hair from heat damage while you are getting it back to a healthy state. Thank you for your inquiry! Have a great weekend.

I want to get the bottom layer of my hair(the layer that hangs down when the hair is pulled halfway up) dyed a "non-conventional" hair color, like blue or purple, How would i go about doing that? Shan M

Shan, We have just introduced our Pravana Vivid color collection to our salons. The colors include: bright pink, pale pink, blue, purple, silver, yellow, orange, and green. Please call and make an appointment with one of our salons to ensure that they will have the specific color that you would like. Any of our stylists will be happy to assist you! The Vivid colors are really popular and exciting at the moment. Have fun and enjoy your experience. FYI: I would suggest getting a dark pillow case the first few days after you color, it will fade a bit due to the intensity of the color. Color Care shampoo and conditioner is highly recommended to lock in your new color!

Your web stylist, Sarah Weitzman

I have extremely straight boring hair. I wish it would do more. I attempt to curl it with a curling iron or hot rollers and it won't stay. Any advice? I thought about a perm but that is a little drastic. I have also heard of something called a body wave do you do that? lauren c

Lauren, Yes! We do have texturizing treatments (body wave) services. Essentially it is a perm however it is a new technique of wrapping the rollers around you hair that will provide lift and wave; rather than having a full blown curly perm. If your hair is as straight as you say and you do not want to -go with the "Body Wave" I would suggest using Redken Texturizing Heat Spray When curling your hair with an iron. This will help to hold your curl for longer. The Sleek Look Hairspray is ant-humidity and will hold your curl while you are outside in this CRAZY heat we are having lately! I hope this helps! If you have any questions or would like us to direct you to our closest location. Please call 636-391-1717. Thank you and have a great day!

i have extremely curly hair and have tried almost every product, how do i get rid of the frizziness? tania s

Tania, Love your curly hair, we always want what we don't have! I have very coarse curly hair also. The key to defrizzing is in your product usage. We offer a High Shine Gloss traetment at all of our locations. This treatment will smooth down your cuticle and fight the frizz. Biolage Conditionind Balm and Hydrating Shampoo for daily use will benefit you because curly hair becomes dry very quickly! After shampooing when you get out of the shower apply a scrunching spray such as Sexy Hair Concept detangling solution, Scrunchy with Paul Mitchell Sculpting Foam. These products both contain a high amount of conditioning agents that will weigh down the hair and fight frizz also. Use a diffuser to blow dry and then finish your style with Masterpiece Hairspray Bed Head. The spray contains shine with minimal hols to perfect your curls. I hope this helps and thank you for your inquiry.

I recently got my hair cut. I only got a trim, about one inch off but it seems like a lot more. I used to have layers in my hair and a face frame but this time she cut it all the same length besides my bangs. I have thick hair so now it lays weird. If I go back into have layers and face frame in, can they do it with out taking a lot off the length? Sam T

Sam, I would hate to tell you anything that would not be correct for your hair. I will say that it sounds as though you are trying to grow your hair out. In order to keep up with the health of your hair monthly trims are vital to ensure healthy growth. Thick hair responds better to layers rather than a blunt cut because the hair is able to move without the weight. Putting a few long layers and face framing will take some of your length off, however I feel like you would be happier and have a style! Thank you for writing in and please call one of our locations for a full in-salon consultation. Have a great day!

Your web stylist, Sarah Weitzman

I am from India and have nice black hair. I recently had a layer cut and was planning to add some highlights to my hair...just not sure which color would suit black hair. Any advice? Shwetha G

Shweth, Your hair would look great with some dimensional highlights! It will frame your face and give you a fresh summer look! I would suggest a caramel color, meaning that you will have highlights and then receive a color or toner atop the highlights to achieve the perfect color. You can set an appointment with any of our amazing stylists and they would be happy to provide you with a complete consultation and your new highlighted look. Please give us a call at 636-391-1717 and we can direct you to the closest Custom Cuts location to you. Thank you and have a fantastic day!

Your web stylist, Sarah Weitzman

I have thick hair, and was wondering if there are any products out there that will keep my hair more flat but without a greasy feeling or hard feeling like a gel or pomade gives you? Joseph H

Joseph, I would recommend you trying the Biolage Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner in the mornings everyday to smooth and relax your hair. When your hair is still wet apply a leave-in conditioner such as Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave- In Treatment. These products will weigh your hair down as well as smooth without giving you that "Sticky" Feeling. If you want to style use American Crew Texturizing cream. I hope this helps and Happy styling!!

Your web stylist -Sarah Weitzman

this is funny I just asked a question, but i just thought of another one. if i were to get highlights, which colors should i stick to? and is there a different way of applying highlights to curls then to straighter hair. here's a link to give you an idea about what i'm working with b/c man do i have some really really curly hair. http://littleknownfactschic.angelfire.com/photos/ thanks! Kim A

Kim, Gorgeous Pictures! I have the same curly hair, so trust me when I say "Embrace your curls!" We all want what we don't have however you have the advantage most people do not; of looking like someone new everyday. I would suggest that you add layers and texturize with the thinning shears to allow for easier lighter curls when you make it curly and then when it is straight you will be able to flat iron easier.

There are many ways to highlight curly hair and this will come out of your consultation with our stylist. Based on the pictures you provided, you should highlight through the top section with small weaved foils. When your curls fall they will have a light accent and when styling straight the color will lift your features with the light color. We offer a high gloss shine treatment that will benefit you!!! The high gloss shine will seal down your cuticle to eliminate frizz and add a ton of shine when you flat iron! Make sure that you are using a heat protectant while using any hot tools (blow dryer, flat iron, curling iron ect..) I would recommend the S-Factor Series for you. Our High Ridge location at 636-677-1202 has the line and will be able to recommend the products and services that I am explaining to you. S-Factor is a heat protectant and smoothing line that works like magic for curly hair! When scrunching use the Sexy Hair Concepts detangling spray and scrunching foam mousse. The Mousse comes out like spray snow for an easier all over application. Hydrating your curls is very important on a daily basis as is keeping up with trims. Curly hair dries out much faster. Use Biolage Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner daily to add moisture to your hair. Thank you for your question and feel free to email back with any more questions! Have a great week!

I am a guy (Indian), and I have long hair . they are dense and were straight until I came to america and got a haircut from fantastic sams , which was very bad and made my hair wavy . can I catch the wave again - I wanted hair like john stamos had in his music video with the beachboys. whast should I do? Rishad R

Rishad, I am sorry that you received a bad haircut! A cut will not change the natural texture of your hair however, the climate might be having an impact on the wave. Anything kind of change in climate or water can have an affect on the way your hair reacts to the environment! We can achieve the wave you are looking for by doing a texturizing service. I assure you that by visiting one of our locations you will receive the best client service and consultation to get the BeachBoy look! Thank you for writing in and I hope this helps!

i colored it just last week and then i used Paul Mitchell Clarifying to wash the chlorine out of my hair after i went to an indoor pool. It washed the color straight out. Do you of any shampoos that get chlorine out of hair but keep the color in? Gail S

Gail, Oh, the swimmers dilemma! I am sorry this happened to you, it is very discouraging. Unfortunately to keep you hair from fading quickly from using clarifying shampoos and or chlorine removal shampoos there are many precautions that you must take. Before entering the pool you must saturate you hair with clean water. This seals your cuticle and dispels the chlorine from entering. Biolage has an AMAZING collection called Sunsorials. It includes shampoo, conditioner, oil and a UV protection. I would recommend the oil before you enter the pool. It is water proof and will protect you hair from the chlorine while saving your color. Make sure that you get the specially formulated shampoo and conditioner. You will be much happier with these products and they will save your color. PM Shampoo 3 is a fantastic product however it will strip color if you do not take the correct precautions. I hope this helped and have a great weekend! Please let us know how everything turns out and thank you for your inquiry.

hi well i am in need of a new hairstyle. i am thinking of the mohawk style.the one that you use gell and you dont need to buzz your hair. i was just wondering how to do it or if i could come into one of the coustome cuts locations and have someone show me how to do it. jeremy k

Jeremy, Yes we can do that! What you are looking for is called a faux hawk style. I would suggest that you go with a #4 on the sides blended up to the your Faux Hawk style and razored for texture. I have found that my clients love to use the American Crew Fiber to finish off the Faux Hawk style. You want to make sure that your hair is 90% dry. Take a dime sized amount of the product in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together, run the product through your hair and shape into a point. All of our locations would be happy to create this style and help you achieve it at home! Thank you for writing in and Happy hair days.

I have medium-length thick hair that I usually always straighten to help it lay nicer. My problem is though is that it feels really dry, looks dull and doesn't feel soft like it used to. I did highlight and color my hair back in the summer. I keep up on my trim to help prevent my split ends. I use a heat protective spray and leave in conditioner. I'm not sure what to do to restore it back to feeling and looking healthy. Do you have any suggestions or products you think would work? Hailee S

Hailee, What we go though for beauty! I have come across this problem many of times. In order to keep your hair shiny I would suggest you get a clear gloss treatment. This color service will coat your hair with a clear gloss shine, tame your frizzies and prolong your hair color. Compare the Clear Gloss Treatment to a clear topcoat on your nails; dull to perfection. The treatment will last 6 to 8 weeks. In order to keep your hair protected daily, Bed Head S-Factor has a AMAZING line specifically formulated to correct drying and heat exposure. The Shampoo and Conditioner along with smoothing drops will benefit you!! All of our locations offer the Clear Gloss Treatment however S-Factor can be ordered specially for you at any location or if you would like to piuck some up you can go to Custom Cuts at High Ridge. I want my hair to grow very, very long. Is there any way to make this happen in a relatively short amount of time? Carly B

Carly, Hair grows on average about 1/4 to 1/2 inch per month if you are not taking certain measures to grow your hair faster. Everything that you put into your body comes out through your hair and your pores. Eating vegetables and fruits and getting the proper exercise will help your hair grow faster. I will recommend purchasing Nioxin Vitamin. They are fantastic in aiding the fast growth of your hair and nails. If you visit any of our Custom Cuts locations they will be able to either order you some or will have them in stock! Keep up with your trims in order to maintain any split ends. Happy Growing!! your Web Stylist, Sarah Weitzman

I used to have medium-length hair until it suddenly started breaking off. Now my hair looks like I had it cut into a short style, without the professional touch. Since it seems to be dry, dull, and lifeless, what can I do to get my hair back on track to being healthy?!! Shaunyel B

Shaunyel,

I want to help with your ordeal, as women our hair is very important to our upkeep and esteem! A few questions first; Have you been using any chemicals on your hair (color, bleach or relaxer)? Many times stresses caused by the time of year can contribute to thinning, hair loss or breakage. It is totally normal, don't worry we can fix this! Here are a few products that will bring your hair back to it's normal state. For your hair loss I am going to recommend that you start using Nioxin Shampoo and Conditioner in the #8 treatment kit. This will moisturize and bring your scalp back to health to promote growth. It sounds like you need to put protein back in your hair from the breakage, use Redken Anti-Snap leave in treatment on your ends first and then throughout your hair when it is still wet. You must keep up with trims in order to keep your ends from breaking off any further. I know that you most likely want to keep your length, however in order to grow it long again you must trim those dead split ends and use the suggested products. I hope this helps and please let me know how it goes! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to email back or call our Resource Center at 636-391-1717 (ask for Sarah) Have an amazing Holiday! Thank you, Sarah Weitzman

I need life and volume in my thin grey hair! Jane B

Jane, I would suggest using Matrix Essentials SoSilver Shampoo to add luster and shine to your grey hair. This product is specificlly made for grey and thinning hair.Amplify (also by Matrix) Conditioner is amazing to open your hair cuticle and create texture and volume. Before blow drying in the morning apply Sexy Hair Concepts Blow in Volume gel while hair is still wet. The combination of these three products will give you fantastic volume and allow for easier styling! Happy Hair Days!

Your web stylist, Sarah Weitzman

My hair is Slightly long and curly. It has so much frizz! And when i straighten it with a flat iron, it looks really puffy. And then i like to get my hair cut and dyed alot. Could that be whats triggering it? Alex W

Alex, Yes you are correct! When Straightening and dying your hair excessively without taking the proper measures to keep it healthy, your hair will become damaged. When cutting curly hair you need to refrain from getting your hair thinned out. When you thin your hair it is a quick fix and always grows back at the root. This may be causing your puffiness and frizz problems. Here are a few products to use that will bring your hair back to a healthy state and keep it protected from the heat. First, use Biolage Hydrating shampoo and Conditioning balm everyday in the shower. Try and refrain from washing your hair everyday, in an effort to gain back some of your natural oils. Secondly, use Redken Anti-Snap Leave in Conditioner when your hair is wet directly out of the shower. Third, you MUST use a heat protectant when using any direct heat on your hair (curling iron, flat iron, blow dryer ect..)!! Paul Mitchell Heat Seal is the mid price item that I would recommend. However, TIGI S-Factor is phenomenal for straightening, smoothing and heat protect! I hope this helped.

Your web stylist, Sarah Weitzman

My hair is semi-wavy and fine. It's super long now and I need a new look, but the most styling I'm willing to do each morning is blow dry with a round brush. Thinking about bangs, but feel I'll be annoyed if I don't work to keep them from getting wavy. Like long hair, but looks "blah" and stringy b/c it's so fine...suggestions? Michelle N

Michelle, Hi! If you are round brushing and blow drying in the morning that takes some time. I am going to cut your styling time in half! The style for your hair type should be shoulder length in order to keep your hair to look healthy and thicker. If you are worried about your bangs becoming curly, I would try out a long side swoop bang at first and then go shorter. I have curly hair too and it is very high maintenance to flat iron your bangs every morning if you are not used to it. I am suggesting that you use Amplify Shampoo and Conditioner daily to add volume to your hair and combine this with Sexy hair concepts Scrunching spray and Spray foam. Apply to your hair when get out of the shower in the morning, scrunch and then blow dry. If you get some small rubber bands and bobby pins you can achieve the curly loose ponytail that is very stylish right now. Good luck and if you have any more questions please don't hesitate to email back!

Back in April I made the mistake of using an over the counter hair straightener. Ever since then everytime I wash my hair it feels really gummy when it is damp and really crispy feeling when it is dry. Any suggestions on what I can do? Kelly B

Kelly, Hello! I am not going to preach to you, I think you have learned your "over the counter lesson"! I'm sorry this happened to you. Your hair at this point is very dry and damaged. Try to refrain from using heat on your hair, most important, the flat iron! You need to put protein back into your damaged hair in order to do this I would suggest using Biolage Fortifying Shampoo and Conditioner on a daily basis, Redken Extreme Anti-Snap Leave in Conditioner and Paul Mitchell Heat Seal to protect your hair from any heat you may be using. Visit our closest location and receive our Biolage Cera-Repair Treatment ($9.99). This is a deep conditioning in salon treatment that will infuse protein ans shine. Stay current on your trims to prevent any split ends and stay positive! Your hair WILL feel much better and love you for the TLC. I hope my suggestions have helped and have an amazing weekend :)

Your web stylist -Sarah Weitzman-

Currently I have short hair that is fine and thin. The top of my head is the worse as most times I can easily see my scalp no matter how I style my hair. Is there anything that can help my hair look fuller or even grow back? Thanks, Donna C

Donna, you have chosen the right style for fine thinner hair, being short. The shorter style will allow your hair to appear thicker. my advice would be to start using the product Nioxin. Nioxin is a scalp treatment that will clear your pores and allow for your scalp to start regenerating. If you color your hair you should purchase the Nioxin treatment System #4, if you do not color your hair Nioxin Treatment System #2 will work best for you. The Systems come in a pack that includes Shampoo, Conditioner and a foam treatment. You should Shampoo and Condition normally. After washing use the foam treatment on your scalp daily. In the beginning you might feel a bit of tingling sensation, this only means that the product is working to clear out your follicles. It will take about 3-6 weeks to see a difference. However, I assure you that this product will do wonders for you. The Nioxin line also has a Follicle Booster for those specific areas that you are talking about. You should use this product to target the problem areas and coincidently it also works to reduce puffiness around the eye area! Please feel free to call if you have any further questions or need to know where to pick up some Nioxin. I would be happy to guide you to one of our locations that carries Nioxin.

recently i decided to color my hair black, well with the way the economy is i am unable to keep coloring it black. my natural color is a medium brown. Last night i went to sally beauty and purchased a hair color to pull out the black. I've used it in the past with no problem. But, this time all it did was turn my roots bright blonde. So, now i have bright blonde roots and black hair. It looks horrible and i was wondering if i should go to a salon today and have it colored brown. would this work? I need help asap please. thanks samantha l

Samantha, Yes, we can defiantly fix your hair! However, this would be what we call "corrective color". Black is the hardest color to get out of the hair. I could not tell you how long this will take to get your hair back to the brown color that you desire. I will let you know that it will cost $70.00 per hour because of the corrective color situation. This is because you have been using over the counter color rather than our professional color that we are trained in. Take some deep breaths, this is VERY fixable! Any one of our salons would be happy to help you and return your color back to the shade you are happy with. If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to write back.

what's good for dry hair and sclap ericka o

Ericka, When the weather changes we all go through dry hair and scalp season! My recommendation is to use Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Hair and scalp treatment twice a week and then on a daily basis use Redken Scalp Treatment Shampoo and Conditioner. This will solve your problem and you will have results in as little as 2 days! I hope this helps.

I am in the proccese of growing my hair long. The only problem i have is I dont like how it looks while i am growing it long. So what do i do to keep my hair looking good while i am growing it long Sam G

Sam, Long hair can be a process, however it's not a loosing battle! To keep your hair maintained while growing it long you need to trim the back and around the sides. Refrain from cutting and or thinning the top until you have acquired the desired length that you are going for. This will stop any issues that you might be having with little curls or bilk growing in the back, you will also keep the longer shaggy popular look. I would recommend using Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum while you hair is still wet in the morning. This awesome product will eliminate any frizzes and help tame your locks while you are growing it out. Use about a quarter size amount in your palm, rub your hands together like lotion and apply through your hair. Happy growing, if we can help with any other question please don't hesitate to ask!!

I am 10 years old and I wanted to know how to get me hair like this.... http://www.latest-hairstyles.com/kids/boys/short-brush-forward.html Josh T

Josh, Very handsome and trendy picture. This is a great style for any age! When you go to the nearest Custom Cuts to get your hair cut, take this picture with you and tell the stylist that you want a #5 on the sides blended up to scissor cut on the top with a length of about 2 inches. Your bangs need to be left long and textured with a razor. I would suggest using American Crew Fiber to help you style. When using the product take a small nickel size amount in your palm and rub your hands together. Then start at the middle and rub the product through to your bangs. TADA! you have achieved the messy trendy style! Happy to help, feel free to ask any more questions!

I have naturally curly hair, but it isn't thick like most people. Right now it is long(past my shoulders), layered, and I have a long sideswept bang. I want something new, but it's har to find a new hairstyle when your hair is curly. I have an oval face shape. Any suggestions? Emily R

Hello, You have the best of both worlds! When you have long thin curly hair with an oval face your best style would be a shorter shoulder length cut with short textured layers, the fringe (bangs) are a great complement to your face shape. Excellent choice! I would suggest Amplify shampoo and conditioner to enhance some extra body to your hair. Do you have highlights? Getting small natural blonde highlight to the center section of the scalp will draw your face up also :) If you have any more questions or would like some more product suggestions please don't hesitate to email!

I have very naturally curly hair that is very dry and frizzy. I have it below the shoulder but it just bunches up in one big curly tangle. I want something different, maybe short. What do you suggest. I just want to shampoo, condition, gel and go. Thanks! Vickie S

Vickie, Hi! You have been blessed with the amazing curly hair syndrome! I also, have very naturally curly hair. The absolute #1 thing that you HAVE to do with curly hair to keep it from becoming that "big curly tangle" is to condition, condition, condition! We naturally have coarse hair that allows the environment to do wonders on our hair, protection is the key! It sounds like you like to spend very minimal amount of time on your hair in the morning. Going shorter might give you even more of a headache when trying to style, I would suggest long layers with NO thinning. When curly hair is thinned, you have a temporary fix. The hair always grows back and ends up very bulky at your scalp. Thus, leaving thin strands on your ends and then a mass at the scalp! Throw away your gel, and replace it with Paul Mitchel Sculpting Foam, this will condition as well as smooth and set your curls. While in the shower, I would suggest Biolage Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioning Balm. If you can stand adding one more step, Bed Head Masterpiece is an excellent hairspray with medium hold and infused with shine. Happy styling and thank you for your question! If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to ask.

can i perm my hair before coloring it? Ashley C

Ashley, Hello, I hope you are having a wonderful day! Yes, you can perm your hair before coloring it but you need to wait 2 weeks for the perm to settle. Your hair must return to a healthier state before putting it through more stress. It also depends whether or not you will be going lighter or darker when you color your hair. When going lighter the perm in those areas might look a little less curly than before you colored it. Make sure that you are using the proper products after your perm and or color! After your perm DO NOT wash your hair for a total of 24 hours to ensure longevity of the perm. I would suggest using Matrix Color Smart Shampoo and Conditioner, Sexy Hair Concepts Scrunching Spray, Paul Mitchel Sculpting Foam and Sexy Hair Concepts Spray and Play Hairspray. If you have any more questions please don't hesitate to email!

Have a Great Day!

i've heard that you can get highlights as cheap at $5 or $6 per streak. do you offer that? natalie h

my hair cut has that punk edge to it where its layers are alot shorter at the top and the bottom layers are long. how do i keep it looking thick? natalie h

Natalie, It sound like you have great hair style! My recommendation would be to use Redken Guts or Bed Head Superstar Thickening Lotion. Guts is a foam volume spray that you can use to create texture and volume before you blow dry. Superstar will thicken your hair at the roots, you also want to use this before you blow dry. The Superstar is a great defining product for your finished style also. Happy Styling and thank you for your questions!

i need a diffrent cute cuit but the hard thing is i have curly hair and i dont want an fro paige g

I completely understand! I also have curly hair. Hello, my name is Sarah Weitzman. I have been a stylist for almost 6 years. With curly hair it is all about the product choices that you are using. We have very dry hair naturally and need to hydrate as much as possible. You want to start with a layered cut with minimal face framing. Choose a hydrating shampoo and conditioner such as Biolage Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioning Balm. When you are wearing your hair curly (if it is humid out) I love to recommend the Catwalk Curls Rock scrunching spray and follow up with Paul Mitchell Sculpting Foam. Always remember, when you flat iron use a heat protector, such as Paul Mitchell Heat Seal. All of this will prolong the style of your hair and you WILL have a much easier time. Do you have long or short hair?

I have highlights that are growing out. I would get touch ups but the hair is breaking and not in good shape. Someone suggested lowlights. What is this and what can I do to improve the current appearance of my hair that will not damage it further? Thanks. kimi e

Lowlighting is a technique that is done like highlighting but instead of coloring the hair lighter the hair is colored back to your natural color or darker.

Usually when the hair is damaged and breaking it is a sign of a lack of protein in the hair. I recommend that you use a reconstuctive conditioner on your hair. This will help add the protein that you need. Along with protein it is very important to moisturize your hair as well. So every other shampoo you will have to use a moisturizing conditioner. You will want to follow this routine until your hair is stronger.

Our salons offer protein packs that can replace the reconstuctor. These packs can be done weekly to everyother week, depending on how weak your hair is.
